OVERVIEW

This long-term development strategy for Ontario’s Durham Region offers design ACTIVITIES for transit oriented development districts. The urban design plan integrates transit supportive mixed uses and multi-modal nodes. The form and function of each node was defined, enhancing linkages and connectivity to the transit system. This results in pedestrian friendly multi-functional public spaces that are easy to access and understand and aesthetically pleasing. Core planning principles, guiding policies and urban design guidelines provide a framework for implementing the design plan. A series of three-dimensional photo simulations helped to provide a basis upon which to evaluate alternative scenarios.
