Holly Springs is a fast-growing community in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. In order to ensure ample parks and recreation facilities would be available as the town grows, a parks and recreation master plan was commissioned concurrently with the town’s first comprehensive plan. The parks and recreation master plan guides both the design and character of the future community and the provision of recreational resources. The plan recommends a greenway trail system, parks and environmental areas that form the backbone to the future community plan. Based on a detailed trends analysis the plan also outlines a phased approach to the supply of facilities and programs to fulfill the needs and wants of its future population.

The plan includes a detailed analysis of current conditions and supply and demand as well as a needs assessment and tourism potential analysis. Based on a broad public input program, the resulting plan presents a greenways concept linking six community centers, each with its own focus, through primary and secondary greenway trails systems. Key attributes of park typologies and design guidelines were included to ensure functional spaces responding to the needs of the population of the growing community.
