OVERVIEW

The City of Orillia is a waterfront community north of Toronto on Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching. With picturesque waterfront parks and a wealth of cultural resources, the City is focused on providing recreation, culture and leisure opportunities for the community of approximately 30,000 people. While much has been accomplished, the City has not updated its master plan since 1989, creating a challenge for system development and project prioritization.

The new Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan takes a fresh look at existing resources and future trends to create a system-based approach to the development of parks, recreation and culture infrastructure. Utilizing detailed inventory information the Master Plan includes an interactive GIS database for the City to use as a tool for managing capital improvement projects. This database tool together with the plan’s comprehensive policy framework, park design guidelines, marketing strategy and maintenance manual, provide a comprehensive guidebook for the City focused on achieving community goals and objectives.
