OVERVIEW

This regional planning project for the fast growing City of Las Cruces and the surrounding Doña Ana County encompasses a massive land area along the southern border of New Mexico. The County, including the City, covers about 3,807 square miles and is home to an estimated population of 193,888. The Plan focuses on sustainable growth and extensive public visioning to define the potential future. Recommendations for cooperation between governments on sensitive regional planning issues further the goal of long-term sustainability. Work products include the preparation of virtual land use models tools to establish an ideal Future Land Use Plan, build out analysis illustrating the fiscal, environmental and social impacts of future planning policy, and an assessment of the suitability of land for various types of development including residential, commercial and light industrial.
